This month, Boxycharm has upgraded their regular boxes to a new level! The new box includes customization, add-ons, choice of one item, and “BoxyPopUp”. BoxyPopUp is a new shopping option that opens up once a quarter. It provides an opportunity for subscribers to purchase a variety of products (beauty, lifestyle, skincare, etc.) at discounted rates, and ships separately from the monthly boxes. The price of the box did go up from $21 to $25, but Boxycharm promises more value per box, so I don’t mind the extra $4.
Let’s get into the November 2019 box!
This month’s theme was “Stellar”. It included five full-sized products, each valued between $9 and $90! The total value of my box came out to be $187.
The first item was the Dominique Cosmetics Celestial Thunder Eye Shadow Palette, worth $35. This palette is a Boxy-exclusive miniature version of the Celestial Storm Palette offered by the brand. This palette contains five mattes and three shimmers, and spans the color range offering neutrals, oranges, bright magenta, and vibrant turquoise.
The second product included in this month’s box was the Kypris Antioxidant Dew Quench & Glow Serum which retails for $90. This is by far the most expensive item in the box, and I was pleased to see that it’s not a Boxycharm exclusive (despite what the product box says), and is sold at Nordstrom. This is a nourishing, moisturizing serum that can be used as a lightweight moisturizer or as a step in your skincare routine. For the retail price, this better be a GREAT product!
The next item was the Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick in the shade Date Night. This liquid lip retails for $18, and this particular shade appears to be a Boxycharm exclusive. The regular range spans 35 shades, and I actually own “Pinky Promise”, which is a bright neon pink. I like this formula, however my favorite liquid lip formula is the Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick. It just can’t be beat!
The fourth product is the Haruharu Wonder Maqui Berry Anti-Oxidant Mask Set. Boxycharm included two full-sized masks, which they say retail for $9 for both. According to the brand’s website, you can purchase five masks for $15, which puts each one at $3, so I’m not sure where Boxycharm figures their retail value out…
This sheet mask is touted as carrying the antioxidant and anti-aging effects of the maqui berry, an alleged superfood known for its skin-regenerative properties. The sheet itself is made of 100% cotton.
The next item was the Boxycharm 2-Piece Brush Set, $35. This set, created by Boxycharm, includes a large multipurpose powder brush and a foundation brush. I found the shapes of the brushes odd, but they feel very soft and dense, and I like the design. I don’t know if they’re worth $35, but I’ll test them and see!
The final item was this sample pack of Pretty Vulgar Under Cover Concealer, which full sized retails for $25. This is kind of a bonus item, as it’s not listed on the fact sheet and there’s no price attached to it. I personally enjoy little sample packs like this. I have found many products that I wouldn’t have tried before that I now love because I received a little blister pack sample of it!
This month’s Boxycharm included a surprising amount of Boxy exclusive items. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it does almost cheapen it, in my mind at least. I appreciate the variety of products, especially from the better-known brands like Dose of Colors and Dominique Cosmetics. I’m excited to try out most of the items, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for the types of products Boxycharm is going to continue to provide. Hopefully they can contract with a wider variety of brands and continue to release more in-demand products! After all, at $25 a box, this is one of the more expensive subscription boxes out there. We’ll see what happens next month!
