Boxycharm October 2019 Unboxing

I’m a just a little late here, but I’ve recently (re)purchased a Boxycharm subscription, and I’m here to share my findings! I went on a kick of beauty box subscriptions several years ago, and at $21 a box, Boxycharm was one of them. I did enjoy it, but obviously not enough to stick around. I tried Boxycharm right after I cancelled my Ipsy subscription, which left much to be desired, in my opinion. Ipsy came with a low price, but consequently offered low-end products. I had developed a much more expensive taste in beauty products (which has since faded with the addition of a baby and the accompanying daycare costs), and I just wasn’t impressed. Boxycharm came with a more expensive price tag each month, but offered a higher-end selection as well as full-sized products. I tried Boxycharm for a few months and ended up cancelling it because I hadn’t been all that impressed either. My main issue was the fact that most of the brands were brands I had never heard of. On paper, they were nice labels with kind of expensive products, but I just wasn’t into indie brands at the time. I just wanted my Too Faced and Urban Decay!

Now I can happily say I am much more willing to branch out and discover new brands and their new products. Interestingly enough, Boxycharm seems to have grown their repertoire of collaborating brands. The past few boxes I’ve received have all had products from companies I already know and love. I’ve received items from Becca, Luxie, Dr. Brandt, Dose of Colors, and several more. Even so, there are still items from companies I’m personally not familiar with, like Hank & Henry and Moda Pro. I’m glad to now have many cosmetic brands at my disposal!

Now, without further ado, lets jump into the October 2019 Boxycharm unboxing!

This month’s theme was “After Dark”. It included five full-sized products, each valued between $21 and $35. The total value of my box came out to be $146!

The first item was the Dose of Colors Marvelous Mauves eye shadow palette, $32. This is an amazing palette, and I know this because I already have this exact one! The shadows are extremely pigmented and blendable. The shades in this particular palette are a range of beautiful purpley plumy shades that range from a very light highlight shade to a deep, dark burgundy brown. The shades are all matte, but not flat or dusty. This palette series comes in several color stories, but this one is my favorite. This was a great item for Boxycharm to include!

The next item was the Touch in Sol Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm, $32. This is an item I had never heard of, but I had heard of the brand. Touch in Sol is a Korean beauty and skincare brand that focuses on fun and unique products, but also on practicality and function. This product is a priming skin balm that’s all about the glow – something that could prove to be a nightmare for my oily skin, but I’m still excited to try it!

The third item was the Iconic London Lip Plumping Gloss in the shade Nearly Nude, $26. I am not a gloss girl. I hate the look and feeling of sticky, wet lips, and I really hate getting my hair stuck in my lip product and it being gross the rest of the day. I’m also not a fan of the tingling sensation of plumping lip products. I am, however, a huge fan of neutral lips, so the shade may be the only saving grace for this product in my collection. I’m going to try this gloss just for the shade, but I’m preparing for it to not be something I frequently reach for.

Next in the box was the Elemis Superfood Vital Veggie Mask, $35. This was the most expensive item in the box and comes from a brand that carries some products with pretty hefty price tags. This ten minute mask is described as a brightening and nourishing superfood smoothie for your face, essentially. While the reviews are great, I’ve never had much luck with masks in the past, so I’ll be interested to see if this actually does anything for my skin.

The last item was the Illuminati Cosmetic Sponge in black, $21. Basically yet another attempt at duping the Beauty Blender, and one I’m not much interested in. I hardly ever apply foundation with a sponge, so this will probably go to a friend! Boxycharm has to fill the rest of the box somehow though!

Overall, I’m happy with the October 2019 box. The Dose of Colors palette is excellent, and I’m glad Boxycharm included it, even though I already own this particular one. I’m excited to try the Touch in Sol primer and the Elemis mask since those two things are products I never would have purchased for myself. Who knows? Maybe I’ll find a ride or die in there. I’ll give the lip gloss a try, but it’s not something I’m anticipating will be a go-to. The sponge isn’t even on my radar in my mind – someone else can enjoy that on my behalf!
